Front drives dulled by algae, back patios gone slippery, paths sprouting weeds between every slab – our pressure washer returns them to clean, grippy surfaces, setting the pressure to suit each surface and offering a treatment to slow regrowth.
Damp air from the river meadows and shade from garden trees make hard landscaping in Jacob’s Well prone to algae, moss and weeds. A patio that looked smart a few summers ago can turn green and greasy, and block paving joints become a seedbed for weeds. Our jet washing in Jacob’s Well strips that layer off, revealing the colour the paving had when it was laid and giving shoes something to grip, particularly in the wet autumn and winter weather that the valley is known for.
Good pressure washing is about control. Concrete, tarmac and most block paving can handle a stronger clean, while natural stone, porcelain, resin-bound surfaces and timber decking need lower pressure and a careful technique to avoid etching, pitting or raising the grain. We set the equipment to suit each area, work evenly so there are no stripes or patches, and rinse the dirt away. Once everything is clean we can, if you like, spray on a biocide so algae, moss and lichen take noticeably longer to creep back.

Jacob’s Well sits in a low, green corner of Guildford borough, with the Wey Navigation and its water meadows on one side and Whitmoor Common on the other. Moisture rising from the meadows keeps the ground damp for long stretches, especially from autumn through spring, and gardens with trees or tall hedges see little direct sun on their patios. Those conditions are ideal for algae and moss, and once a surface is slippery and green it rarely clears without a proper clean.
Nearly every house on the Woking Road and its side streets has its own front drive, many of them block paving or concrete laid when the houses were built or extended. Block paving tends to suffer from weeds and moss growing in the joints, while concrete drives darken with algae, tyre marks and leaf stains. Back gardens feature a mix of older concrete slabs, natural sandstone patios and newer porcelain terraces, each needing a slightly different approach. Bungalows often have long paths running down the side of the house that stay shaded and become slippery.
Trees from the common and along the river drop leaves, needles and seeds that settle on paving and break down into a slimy layer. Regular sweeping helps, but a periodic jet wash restores surfaces properly and makes them safe again. Driveways and patios across the village, and over in Burpham, Merrow and Sutton Green, are all on our patch.
Every surface is different, so we match the method to the material before we start.
First comes a walk round to identify materials, spot rocking blocks or cracked slabs, and settle which areas are on the list. Nothing starts until you are happy.
Loose leaves and weeds are cleared, nearby plants and doorways protected where needed, and the pressure and nozzle chosen to suit paving, stone, decking or walls.
Surfaces are cleaned evenly to avoid patchy results, then rinsed so lifted dirt and slurry are washed off rather than left drying on the paving.
Biocide goes down if you have chosen it. On block paving we will also explain how and when to brush fresh sand into the joints once it is dry.

Pretty much any outdoor hard surface can be pressure washed. Around the village we are most often asked to tackle:
Cleaning several areas in one visit is often the simplest way to refresh the whole property.
Tell us about all the areas when you get in touch, including the bins area, front step and any garden walls, so the quote covers the lot. We will confirm the list again on arrival before starting.
We quote each job based on the areas involved rather than a fixed rate. Pricing depends on:
Photos of each area with an approximate size are usually enough for a fixed quote.
Sizes do not need to be exact – a rough estimate, or a few paces counted out, is perfectly fine. If you would like the drive and the patio done together, mention both so they can be quoted as one visit. The figure we send is fixed, with no surprises once we have finished.
Yes. Patios in Jacob’s Well often stay damp because of the moist air from the river meadows and shade from trees. Washing strips off the green layer, and biocide afterwards means it takes far longer to return. Keeping the patio clear of leaves and trimming overhanging branches also helps it dry out faster.
Pressure washing clears weeds and moss from the joints along with the surface dirt. Some jointing sand washes out in the process, so re-sanding afterwards is a good idea to keep the blocks firm and make it harder for weeds to re-establish.
Handled gently, they clean up very well. Porcelain and natural stone get much softer settings than a concrete drive would, and we adjust our technique accordingly to clean thoroughly without etching or damaging the surface. Grout lines in porcelain clean up especially well.
Absolutely. Side paths are often the most slippery areas because they get little sun. Jet washing removes the algae and moss that make them treacherous in wet weather, and a biocide treatment helps keep them safer for longer. The path will feel very different the next morning.
Those little black discs are lichen, and they cling hard. The wash takes off what sits on top, then a treatment works on the anchored part over the following weeks. Some old stone keeps a faint mark, and we will tell you beforehand if we think yours will.
Not at all – we can let ourselves in through the side gate, and we plug into an outdoor socket. Plenty of people are out when we call; a text confirms the job is done, with pictures if you ask.
