Home›Gutter Cleaning›Jacob’s Well
Jacob’s Well sits between the Wey meadows and the heath of Whitmoor Common, so gutters here catch leaves from both sides. We empty every length, check each outlet and leave your downpipes running freely – a once-a-year job done thoroughly.
Gutters do their work quietly until the day they stop. In a village like this, ringed by hedgerows, field oaks, riverside willows and the pines and birches of the common, there is no shortage of material drifting onto roofs, and every bit of it eventually slides down into the gutter. A routine visit for gutter cleaning in Jacob’s Well takes all of that out before it can set into sludge, choke an outlet or push water back towards the fascia board.
Our method is built around a commercial gutter vacuum mounted on extendable poles giving up to 12 metres (around 40ft) of reach. Standing on the drive or lawn, we can work along most two-storey and three-storey rooflines without propping a ladder against plastic guttering. Corners and outlets with stubborn compacted silt are finished by hand from a safely positioned ladder. With the gutters emptied, a bucket or hose of water goes through each outlet to check the pipes beneath are open, and we are happy to send over photos of the finished gutters if you were not home to see them.

Jacob’s Well is a small place with a lot of greenery packed around it. To the west, Whitmoor Common brings heathland pine, birch and gorse close to many gardens. To the east lie the water meadows of the River Wey and the Wey Navigation, lined with willow, alder and poplar that shed leaves and fluffy seed heads in large quantities. Farm hedges and mature oaks along the lanes towards Sutton Green add an autumn drop of their own. Wherever you live in the village, at least one of these is likely to end up in your gutters.
The housing on and just off the A320 is a blend of older cottages, inter-war and post-war semis, bungalows and some newer infill houses. Bungalows have low gutters but often very long runs and deep overhangs, while the semis frequently have a rear extension or garage with its own small gutter that rarely gets checked. Older properties may still have cast-iron sections in among later plastic repairs.
Being low-lying and close to the river, the village tends to see damp mornings and mist rising off the meadows, which keeps roofs moist and encourages moss to grow and shed into the gutter. A yearly clean, or two for homes right next to trees, keeps everything flowing. We look after gutters throughout Jacob’s Well and the wider GU4 area, including Burpham, Merrow and the edge of Guildford.
From first message to final flush, the routine is designed so nothing on the roofline gets missed.
Pop your Jacob’s Well address and some garden-level pictures of each roofline into WhatsApp, a text or an email. A fixed price usually comes back to you on the same day.
Before switching anything on, we walk the property looking for overflow marks, dipping lengths and blocked outlets, and agree with you which roofs and outbuildings are included.
Leaves, seeds, needles and silt are drawn out of every gutter from end to end. Stubborn corners and outlets get finished off by hand from a ladder when required.
A test pour down every pipe confirms it is draining, any spills are swept from paths and patios, and you get a message – plus photos if you asked for them.

You can usually spot a gutter that needs attention from the garden, long before damp shows up inside. Watch for:
If two or more of these sound familiar, the gutters are probably holding water and debris that should have gone months ago.
Catching it at this stage keeps the job to a straightforward clean rather than a repair.
There is no one-size price list, because a bungalow on the Woking Road and a three-storey detached house are very different jobs. Your quote reflects:
Message us a few pictures from the garden and we will send a fixed price, normally the same day.
Prices are fixed, so nothing changes on the day.
It can. Willows, poplars and alders along the river shed leaves and fluffy seeds that blow surprisingly far, and the damp air off the water meadows encourages moss on roofs. Both end up in the gutter, so homes on the eastern side of the village often benefit from a clean in early summer as well as in autumn.
Low gutters are easier to reach, but bungalows often have very long runs, deep overhangs and conservatories built against them. We vacuum the full length, check every outlet and flush the downpipes, which is more thorough than scooping out handfuls from a stepladder and avoids anyone working off a ladder on uneven ground.
The vacuum poles extend to roughly 12 metres, enough for nearly all two and three-storey houses in and around Jacob’s Well. Where an outlet is packed solid or a section sits out of reach, we use a ladder with proper footing to complete the work by hand.
Yes, just mention them or include them in your photos. Small roofs on garages, sheds and lean-to extensions fill up just as quickly as the house and are easy to add to the same visit. Sheds with felt roofs often have tiny gutters that clog in a single season.
There is no reason for us to step indoors. Give us a clear path around the outside and somewhere to plug the vacuum in, and you can carry on with your day elsewhere. Gates are closed behind us when we leave.
Everything above the ground is ours to clear, from the shoe at the foot of the pipe up to the swan neck under the eaves. A stoppage further down, inside the buried drain, needs a drains firm with cameras and jetters, and we would say so honestly.
