Yes. Concrete yards and hardstandings around stables and barns collect mud, straw and algae, and they can become very slippery. We pressure wash them with a rotary cleaner and lance, and can apply a biocide afterwards to slow regrowth.
Pine needles leave tannin stains as they break down, which is common around The Sands and Crooksbury. Pressure washing removes most of the staining, with any faint shadow tending to disappear as a few weeks of sun and rain do their work.
Set up properly, a pressure washer leaves the blocks themselves unharmed. Inevitably a little joint sand leaves along with the weeds, and brushing in fresh kiln-dried sand afterwards re-tightens the surface – we can quote for that too.
It should not, done our way. We wash decking along the grain on a lower setting to remove algae and dirt without furring the wood. Allow it to dry fully before applying any oil or stain.
Garden and yard walls in brick or local stone can be washed where the mortar is firm. We lower the pressure on older walls and keep the lance moving, so pointing is not scoured out. Crumbling joints are pointed out first.
It depends on shade, trees and traffic. Biocide holds back fresh moss and algae, while brushing the drive often, especially during leaf and needle fall, helps keep surfaces cleaner for longer.
