Slimy flagstones by the back door, a block-paved drive turned olive green, steps you hardly dare walk down in winter – our Puttenham jet washing service lifts the moss, weeds and black spots and leaves outdoor surfaces safe and smart.
Gardens around Puttenham see a lot of shade and a lot of damp, and hard surfaces pay for it. Moss creeps across sandstone flags, algae turns porcelain slippery, and the joints in block paving fill with weeds and dark silt. Our jet washing in Puttenham tackles all of that, reviving drives, terraces, steps, footpaths, decks and garden walls until they look loved and grip properly underfoot.
No two surfaces get identical treatment from our pressure washing kit. Natural stone and older brick need a gentler touch than a modern concrete drive, resin can be damaged by a nozzle held too close, and softwood decking marks easily. We adjust pressure, nozzle and distance to the surface in front of us, and run a spinning surface cleaner over broad, level areas so no tiger-striped lanes are left behind. Joints are raked free of weeds, black lichen spots can be treated, and a biocide can be applied afterwards to slow regrowth. Where block paving loses sand during cleaning, we can talk you through re-sanding. Everything is rinsed away from doors and drains and the area left tidy.

Puttenham is a village of old walls, stone paths and generous gardens, many of them bordered by fields, hedgerows or woodland. That setting is beautiful, but it means patios and paths spend much of the year in dappled shade and stay damp long after rain has stopped. The Hog’s Back to the north holds in the still, moist air, and leaf litter from the ridge and Puttenham Common sits on paving and rots into a slippery film. By late winter many terraces are as much moss as stone.
The materials vary widely. Older cottages often have sandstone or York stone flags and brick paths laid decades ago, sometimes uneven and with soft mortar joints that need careful handling. Converted barns and larger houses may have long gravel-edged drives with block-paved aprons, and newer properties often have porcelain patios or resin-bound drives that need a lighter touch to avoid marking. Timber decking under trees goes green and greasy fast and needs gentle cleaning to protect the grain.
Garden walls in Bargate stone or old brick also collect algae and lichen, and we can wash those where the pointing is sound. We pressure wash throughout GU3, covering Puttenham, Wanborough, Compton and Seale, plus the lanes leading out towards Elstead and Shackleford.
Every surface is treated on its own terms, following the four stages below.
We identify the material, look at joints, pointing and any loose slabs, and agree which areas to clean, so delicate stone or resin is not given the same pressure as concrete.
Heavy moss and weeds are scraped from joints and edges first, so the pressure washer can work on the surface itself rather than fighting through thick growth.
Using a rotary cleaner for flat areas and a lance for edges, steps and walls, we clean with pressure and distance adjusted to the material for an even, stripe-free result.
Dirty water and debris are rinsed away from doors and drains, biocide is applied if you have chosen it, and paths and planters are washed down before we go.

Yes, but carefully. Natural stone, especially older soft sandstone, can be marked by too much pressure. We reduce the pressure, keep a safe distance and use a rotary cleaner for an even finish. If joints are soft or crumbling, we will point that out before we start.
Shade and leaf litter make regrowth inevitable to some degree, particularly in a village as leafy as Puttenham. Spraying biocide once the wash is finished holds off the moss and algae for longer, and clearing leaves from the patio regularly over autumn also helps it stay cleaner for longer.
Those black spots are usually lichen, which grips tightly. Pressure washing removes the loose growth, and a treatment designed for lichen helps break down what remains. They can fade over the following weeks rather than disappearing instantly, and we will explain what to expect.
Cleaning removes weeds and silt from the joints, and some sand comes out too. Brushing in kiln-dried sand afterwards tightens the blocks up again and leaves fewer gaps for seedlings to colonise, and we are happy to quote for that.
Resin-bound surfaces can be cleaned safely with lower pressure and the right nozzle. Too much pressure can loosen stones, so we take care and test a small area first.
We direct runoff towards suitable drains or soft ground and away from doorways, garages and neighbours’ property. Paths, walls and windows that get splashed are rinsed off before we leave.
