Home›Gutter Clearing›Seale
When a gutter on your Seale farmhouse, cottage or stable block has turned into a window box and the downpipe has given up, we cut through the blockage, pull out the growth and get rain moving to ground again.
Rural properties often go years between gutter visits, especially on barns, stables and garages that nobody looks at closely. By the time someone notices, the gutter may be a solid trough of peat with grass on top, and the downpipe beneath it packed from shoe to swan neck. Our gutter clearing in Seale is aimed squarely at those situations: we dig the compacted material out, remove plants with their roots, and keep going until water runs freely from the roof to the drain.
The pole-mounted vacuum, reaching around 12 metres from the ground, does much of the extraction, even on tall farmhouse gables. Where an outlet has set solid or a valley is buried under rotting needles, it gets prised apart by hand from a firmly secured ladder, so debris is lifted out rather than forced into the pipe. Gutter guards that have silted over are taken out, the channel beneath is emptied, and the guards are cleaned and replaced. Downpipes are cleared from the shoe upwards and flushed, and if the real problem is in the buried drain, we will say so and leave it for a drainage firm.

Much of the southern half of Seale parish is sandy heathland and pine wood, running towards The Sands and the slopes of Crooksbury Hill. Scots pine sheds needles in every month of the year, and in a gutter they form a dense, springy mat that traps silt and holds water. Within a season or two it behaves like compost, and we regularly pull grass, moss, foxgloves and young birch out of gutters on properties among the trees.
Closer to the Hog’s Back the problem shifts to leaves. The ridge catches westerly gales, and when they blow through in autumn, beech, oak and hedgerow leaves are stripped and dumped on rooftops in the shelter below. A gutter that coped in September can be brimming by mid-November. Older farm buildings add their own complications: long runs with only one outlet, valley gutters between barn roofs, and downpipes discharging into old open gullies that silt up.
Equestrian yards are common around the parish too, and stable gutters often catch hay, feathers and nesting material as well as leaves. We clear blocked gutters and downpipes throughout GU10 around Seale, including The Sands, the farms near the Hampton Estate, and homes on the lanes towards Tongham, Runfold and Puttenham.
Our clearing method focuses on removing the obstruction completely and proving the water can escape.
We use your photos and an on-site look to find where the water is backing up, whether that is an outlet, a corner, a valley or a section overgrown with plants.
Matted needles and silt are vacuumed out, rooted plants are eased free with their roots, and set-solid plugs are broken up by hand so nothing is pushed into the pipe.
Working from the shoe upwards, we remove debris lodged in bends and swan necks, then pour water in from the top to confirm the pipe now runs clear.
Cleaned guards are put back, debris is bagged from the yard or garden, and we send you a message with photos showing the gutter flowing once more.

Yes. Stable and barn gutters often get forgotten and end up overgrown. We remove the grass and moss with its roots, empty the gutter of the peaty debris underneath, and clear the downpipes so the yard stays drier in wet weather.
The pine woods around Crooksbury Hill and The Sands drop needles all year. They slide off the roof, lock together at the outlet and trap silt, so a gutter can block within months. Clearing the outlets and setting up a regular cleaning schedule helps keep things flowing.
Usually, yes. Valley gutters collect a lot of debris and are hard to see from the ground. We reach them with the vacuum where possible and use safe ladder access to hand-clear outlets that need it.
We remove old, abandoned nesting material that is blocking gutters or downpipes. If a nest is active during the breeding season, we leave it undisturbed and come back once it is empty, as nesting birds are protected.
We clear the downpipe and can lift leaves and silt out of an open gully at the bottom. If water still does not drain because the pipe below ground is blocked, a drainage company will need to take over, and we will explain what we found.
We prioritise active overflows where we can. Send a photo, mention that water is coming over, and we will offer the earliest appointment available in the Seale area.
