Jet Washing & Pressure Washing in Burgh Heath

Pressure Washing That Suits Every Surface

A driveway or patio that has turned green and black takes the shine off the whole property, and on damp days it can be downright treacherous underfoot. Our jet washing Burgh Heath service blasts away the moss, weeds, algae, lichen spots and ground-in dirt that collect on outdoor surfaces, restoring their original colour and giving you grip back on paths and steps. It is one of the quickest ways to make a home look cared for.

We never use a single setting for everything. A plain concrete drive can handle a powerful, focused jet, but block paving needs care so the jointing is not stripped out, natural stone needs a softer touch to avoid etching, and resin-bound or tarmac drives need lower pressure still. For large flat areas we use a rotary surface cleaner, which gives an even finish without the striping you sometimes see after DIY pressure washing. Once everything is clean and rinsed, we can apply an optional biocide treatment, which carries on killing off spores and slows the return of moss, algae and black spots for months afterwards.

  • Front drives of every type, from tarmac to resin-bound
  • Sandstone, slate, porcelain and slab patios revived
  • Steps, side passages, walls and decks made safe again
  • Rotating surface head for a uniform, streak-free finish
  • Biocide aftercare offered to delay green regrowth

Driveways and Patios in Burgh Heath

The damp, cool climate up on the North Downs plateau is great news for moss and algae. Low cloud and morning mist hang over Burgh Heath for much of the autumn and winter, and paving in shaded front gardens, narrow side passages and north-facing patios can stay wet for weeks. Trees around Banstead Heath, Walton Heath and the many mature gardens in KT20 drop leaves that stain paving and break down into a thin layer of soil, which is exactly what weeds need to take root in the joints between blocks and slabs.

Traffic is the other big factor. Homes facing the A217 Brighton Road or the A240 Reigate Road see road dirt and tyre grime carried onto driveways, and oil spots from parked cars are common on older concrete and block-paved drives. Many of the 1930s semis and post-war bungalows in Burgh Heath have long front driveways that have been relaid in block paving or tarmac over the years, while back gardens often have concrete slab or Indian sandstone patios, each needing different treatment.

Clay-with-flints soils over the chalk also hold moisture close to the surface, so patios and paths beside lawns and borders are prone to green algae. A thorough pressure wash, followed by re-sanding of block paving joints where needed and an optional biocide, keeps surfaces safer and smarter through the wet season. We cover Burgh Heath and the nearby areas of Tadworth, Kingswood and Banstead.

How it works

Our Jet Washing Process

Careful preparation and the right settings give a clean, even finish without damage.

Check the surfaces

We confirm what each area is made of, look for loose blocks or cracked slabs, and choose the right pressure, nozzle or rotary cleaner for every surface.

Clear weeds and moss

Weeds and thick moss are removed from joints, edges and corners first, so the main wash can reach down into the gaps and lift out embedded dirt.

Pressure wash

The whole area is cleaned in steady passes, using a rotary cleaner on large flat areas for an even finish, then rinsed so loosened debris is washed away.

Optional biocide

To keep the surface cleaner for longer, we can apply a biocide treatment that continues working after we leave, slowing the return of algae, moss and black spots.

What We Can Pressure Wash

Pretty much any hard surface outside a Burgh Heath home can be brought back with the right equipment and settings. The areas we are asked to tackle most often are:

  • Long front driveways laid in block paving, plain concrete, tarmac or resin-bound gravel
  • Back-garden patios in Indian sandstone, slate, porcelain or older concrete slabs
  • Garden paths, front steps and the shady passages down the side of semis
  • Brick, flint, stone or rendered garden walls that have gone green
  • Softwood, hardwood and composite decking that has become slippery
  • Bin stores, parking bays and garage aprons stained by oil and leaves

Got a surface you are unsure about, perhaps a newly laid porcelain terrace or an old crazy-paving path? Photograph it for us and we will tell you honestly how we would clean it, or whether it is better left alone.

What Affects Jet Washing Prices?

A small front path and a double-width drive with a wraparound patio are clearly very different amounts of work, so we price every booking separately. The things that shape your quote are:

  • How many square metres need cleaning in total
  • Hard-wearing concrete versus softer stone or resin needing a lighter touch
  • The weight of moss, weed growth and black-spot staining
  • Getting equipment and a water supply to the area
  • Adding the biocide finish once washing is done

Message pictures of each area and a fixed price will normally be with you by the end of the day.

FAQs

Jet Washing FAQs for Burgh Heath

That depends on shade, nearby trees and how much the drive is used. In damp, shaded spots, which are common on the Downs, algae can start creeping back within a year. Our biocide treatment, applied straight after cleaning, slows that regrowth considerably and keeps the surface looking fresh for a good deal longer.

Pressure washing usually lightens oil stains noticeably, especially on plain concrete drives. Deep, old or soaked-in stains may not vanish completely, particularly on porous block paving, but we will do what we can and give you an honest idea of what to expect before we start, so there are no disappointments.

Some kiln-dried jointing sand always comes out with the weeds and dirt, which is normal. Once the surface has dried we can talk you through re-sanding, which locks the blocks tightly together again, stops them shifting under the car and makes it much harder for weeds to re-establish in the joints.

It can, provided the pressure is turned down and the jet kept moving. Sandstone and other natural stone are softer than concrete, so too much force can pit or etch the face. We also recommend biocide on sandstone, because it is very effective against the stubborn black spots that so often appear on it.

Just access to an outside tap and to the areas being cleaned. You do not need to be home, and many Burgh Heath customers are at work while we get on with it. Moving cars off the drive the night before helps a lot, and we let you know as soon as everything is finished.

None at all. Both phrases describe cleaning outdoor surfaces with a high-pressure jet of water, and people tend to use whichever they grew up hearing. The part that counts is matching force, spray pattern and method to the material in front of us, and we take that seriously on every Burgh Heath job.
