When a winter gale has packed your gutters with leaves off the heath, or a downpipe has quietly choked, rain ends up on your walls instead of in the drain. We dig out the blockage and get the water moving again.
A blocked gutter tends to announce itself at the worst moment: a downpour at night, water thundering past the bedroom window and a puddle spreading across the patio. Behind it there is usually a dense wad of leaves, moss and roof grit wedged over the outlet, or a downpipe stuffed solid at the bend. Our gutter clearing Burgh Heath visits are aimed squarely at those stoppages, removing the plug itself and anything rooted in the gutter, then proving the system drains again from top to bottom.
We start with a high-powered vacuum on poles reaching roughly 12 metres from the ground, which lifts loose material and most compacted debris without any weight on the gutter. Where a blockage has set like clay, one of us goes up a ladder and chips it loose by hand. Each downpipe is worked on from the ground upwards, working through shoes, bends and offsets until water runs straight down. If your gutters have guards fitted, we remove them, empty the sludge that has gathered underneath, and refit them. We explain what caused the problem so you know whether it is likely to happen again.

Being on high, open ground is the main reason Burgh Heath gutters jam so suddenly. Storms rolling over the North Downs whip leaves, birch twigs and seed fluff off Banstead Heath, Walton Heath and the wooded margins around the village, then drop them in drifts along gutter lines. Unlike a slow seasonal build-up, a single windy night can pack an outlet tight. Holly and evergreen oak leaves are particularly troublesome, because their stiff, spiky shapes lock together and act like a sieve that traps everything behind them.
Many local homes are bungalows and chalet bungalows with low-pitched roofs and long gutter runs, often with just one or two downpipes serving a lot of roof. When one of those outlets blocks, a huge amount of water has nowhere to go. Older 1930s semis frequently still have narrow downpipes with tight swan-neck bends, and those bends are the first place compacted debris lodges. Garages and lean-to extensions add flat or shallow roofs where leaves sit, rot down and wash into the gutter as a thick paste.
Then there is moss, which causes almost as many stoppages as leaves. The damp clay-with-flints soils on this part of the Downs keep roofs moist, so moss grows readily and sheds into the gutters every spring. We clear blocked gutters right across KT20, including the streets near the Brighton Road, the roads towards Kingswood and Tadworth and the edges of Banstead.
We find exactly where the water is stopping, then clear it until it flows freely again.
Send us photos or a short video of the gutter spilling over, plus wider shots of the roofline, so we can judge the likely cause and give you a fixed price.
On site we work out whether the gutter, the outlet, a swan-neck bend or the downpipe itself is choked, so we clear the real problem rather than guessing.
Packed leaves and moss are broken up and removed, rooted plants pulled out whole, guards lifted and emptied, and downpipes rodded from ground level until clear.
We flush the cleared section to make sure it drains properly. If water still backs up below ground, we explain that the drain needs a specialist.

Some gutter problems can wait for a routine visit. These ones are worth sorting quickly, before winter weather makes them worse and water starts damaging fascias and walls:
Acting at the first sign of overflow is far cheaper than repairing rotten fascia boards or treating damp walls later on.
Clearing jobs are priced from your photos, so the figure reflects the work involved rather than a generic rate. Things that make a difference include:
Message your pictures by WhatsApp, SMS or email and a fixed quote usually follows the same day.
Burgh Heath sits on exposed ground on top of the Downs, so strong winds carry leaves and twigs off the surrounding heaths and woodland and drop them on rooftops. A single gale can fill an outlet that was clear the week before. If it happens every autumn, a pre-winter clean can help.
It means each outlet is handling a lot of roof, so one blockage causes heavy overflow very quickly. We clear both outlets and pipes thoroughly, and if the system is genuinely undersized we can advise on adding an extra outlet or downpipe as part of a separate quote.
Yes. Grass, moss and seedlings growing in gutters are pulled out with their roots and the silt they grow in, which stops them regrowing straight away. Leaving plants in place lets roots spread into joints and outlets, so it is worth removing them early.
We do. Guards keep larger leaves out but fine debris still collects underneath and eventually blocks the gutter. We lift the guards, clear the run and outlet beneath, then put them back in place. If they are damaged, we will let you know.
We clear downpipes from ground level upwards, including the shoe and the bends, which sorts out most blockages. Should the water keep rising from a buried drain, that is a job for drainage engineers, as our work ends at ground level, and we will say so plainly.
No. Lots of Burgh Heath customers are at work when we visit. As long as we can get safely to every side of the house and there is an outside power point, we can get on with it, then lock the gates and message you when finished.
