Home›Roof Cleaning & Moss Removal›Camberley
Camberley’s shady pine-lined streets grow roof moss with real enthusiasm. We scrape it off tile by tile, wash the roof in a way that respects its age and material, and leave the guttering clear underneath.
A roof that has gone green and lumpy rarely looks its age; it looks older. Beneath the fuzz, moss is quietly holding moisture against the tile nibs and overlaps, and every breezy day it drops another handful into the gutters. Our roof cleaning in Camberley tackles the cause directly. Moss removal comes first, carried out with bespoke hand tools whose blades match the curve or flat of your particular tile, pulling growth out of every trough instead of smearing it about.
After scraping, the roof gets a wash suited to its construction. Concrete tiles, the most common covering on Camberley’s post-war and 1970s houses, typically take a gentle low-pressure rinse. Clay and older, more porous tiles are often steam cleaned, using heat to lift grime and spores with far less force. An optional biocide can follow, which makes life harder for returning moss, algae and lichen. Before leaving, every gutter is relieved of whatever tumbled into it, downpipes included, and brush down the ground below, so the one thing you should notice is the roof.

Much of Camberley was carved out of heath and pine forest, and the trees never really left. Roads around Crawley Hill, Heatherside, the Upper College Ride area and the heathland edges beside Camberley Heath’s fairways are shaded for much of the day by Scots pine, birch and oak. Roofs that rarely dry out in winter make ideal ground for moss, and needles that settle on the tiles provide extra grip and moisture. North-facing slopes in these areas can be almost completely green.
The roof types vary across the town. The large post-war and 1970s to 1980s estates in Heatherside, Frimley, Old Dean and Watchetts mostly have concrete interlocking tiles, which collect moss in the deep troughs between profiles. Victorian and Edwardian homes near York Town, the High Street and towards Sandhurst are more likely to have clay plain tiles or slate, which call for a gentler method. Newer developments and townhouses have steep, tall roofs where access is the main consideration.
Low-lying ground adds moisture too. The Blackwater River valley on the western side of town and the Basingstoke Canal through Frimley Green and Mytchett keep the air damp, and fog can sit in the hollows on still winter mornings. Both Camberley postcodes, GU15 and GU16, are covered for moss removal and roof washing, and many customers pair it with gutter clearing and fascia washing so the top of the house is fully refreshed.
Four careful stages, adjusted to the age and material of your roof.
We look at tile type, roof pitch, valleys, ridges and any existing damage, then agree the right cleaning method and whether you want the biocide treatment.
Working one course of tiles at a time from ridge to eaves, shaped blades draw the moss out of faces, troughs and side locks, and clumps are bagged as we go.
The roof is low-pressure washed or steam cleaned to remove remaining dirt, followed by biocide if requested to slow regrowth of moss and lichen.
Moss and grit that reached the gutters are vacuumed out, each downpipe gets a flush, and drives, steps and patios are brushed off before we load up.

Green creeps across tiles over several winters, often unnoticed until it is obvious from the street. Cross the street and look up for:
Tackling the growth while it is still thin is quicker, and kinder to the tiles, than prising off years of thick build-up.

Yes, concrete interlocking tiles are among the easiest to restore. We scrape the moss from the troughs and edges, then low-pressure wash the roof. A biocide treatment afterwards helps keep it clean for longer.
Steam is the softer option, because heat rather than force breaks down grime and spores, so it is the usual pick for clay and older porous tiles. Modern concrete tiles shrug off a low-pressure rinse perfectly well. We decide once we have seen the covering up close.
That hinges on how much shade the roof gets. Treated with biocide, a typical roof stays clear for a good few years. Under the heavy pine canopy found around Crawley Hill and Heatherside, it is sensible to have a look every couple of years.
Very unlikely with our approach. High pressure is off the table, the scrapers are made to fit the tile, and fragile roofs are steamed. Should we discover tiles that were already cracked or slipping, you will get photographs before we carry on.
In many cases, yes. We work on homes of varying heights across the town and will talk through safe access when quoting. Very steep or three-storey roofs may need extra access arrangements, which we will explain up front.
It is built in. Whatever we scrape off the tiles has to go somewhere, and it is usually the gutters, so emptying every run and flushing the downpipes is part of the price rather than an add-on.
