In everyday use, yes. Either phrase means blasting grime off hard surfaces with water under pressure. What matters is how it is done, which is why we adjust the pressure and technique for each surface rather than using maximum power on everything. Sandstone is softer than many other paving materials, so it needs care. We use lower pressure and keep the nozzle at a safe distance, focusing extra attention on algae and black spot without wearing the stone away. Many Esher patios are sandstone, so we handle it regularly.
Those black spots are lichen, and they grip stone paving very firmly. Pressure washing removes much of it, and a follow-up treatment helps break down what remains over the following weeks. Results depend on how long it has been established, and we will be honest about what to expect.
Cleaning block paving thoroughly can remove some of the jointing sand along with the moss and weeds. Let us know if you would like re-sanding included and we will discuss it when we quote. Kiln-dried sand brushed back into the joints helps lock the blocks and makes it harder for weeds to return.
