Water pouring over the front of your gutters or a downpipe that has gone silent? We break up stubborn blockages, pull out rooted weeds and get Stoke D’Abernon rainwater moving again.
A gutter that has quietly collected leaves for a few seasons eventually turns into a planter. The debris breaks down into a dense black compost, grass and ivy seedlings root into it, and the outlet at the bottom of the run seals over. Our gutter clearing in Stoke D’Abernon is aimed squarely at that problem: we deal with the jam, not just the loose top layer, so the next storm runs off the roof instead of over the edge.
Compacted material is loosened and lifted out with a high-powered vacuum on poles of up to 12 metres, and anything that has set like concrete is chipped loose by hand from a secured ladder. Rooted plants are pulled whole so nothing regrows from the stump. Then attention turns to the downpipes, which we rod and flush from the bottom upwards until water arrives at the gully freely. Brush or mesh inserts that have silted over are taken out, emptied beneath, rinsed and slotted back.

Much of Stoke D’Abernon backs onto green space of some kind – the Mole meadows near St Mary’s, playing fields, paddocks or the wooded slopes heading up to Oxshott. That makes for a heavy mix of material landing on roofs: oak leaves and acorns, beech mast, willow and poplar fluff in late spring, and needles from the odd Scots pine or cedar in larger gardens. Individually none of it is much, but layered over two or three autumns it compresses into a plug that a garden trowel will barely shift.
Plenty of village houses also have features that trap debris. Hipped roofs with valley gutters, dormer cheeks, bay roofs with short runs and outlets tucked behind chimney stacks all give leaves somewhere to settle where nobody looks from the ground. On the older 1930s homes along the roads near the station, the original outlets are often narrow, so they block sooner. And because the village sits low in the river valley, roofs stay damp for days after rain, which is perfect for moss to grow, break off and wash straight into the outlet.
Storms are the other trigger. A blustery night in October or November can strip a tree in hours and fill a clean gutter by morning. We clear blocked systems right across KT11, including the homes around Station Road, Blundel Lane and Woodlands Lane, and can often fit urgent overflow jobs in at short notice once the weather settles.
Blockages vary a lot, so we work methodically from the roof edge down to the drain.
From your photos and a look on arrival we pin down where water is escaping, which outlets have sealed, and whether a downpipe is blocked part-way down or right at the swan neck.
Solid plugs of silt are broken up and drawn out with the vacuum, and plants are pulled with their roots. Hand tools from a ladder deal with anything the hose cannot loosen.
Each downpipe is cleared from ground level upwards, then a test flow is run from the gutter to make sure water reaches the gully without backing up into the run above.
Any guards we removed go back on, loose debris is bagged and swept away, and we let you know what we found, including any parts that are now worth repairing.

A blocked run is easiest to spot in a cloudburst. Head outside with an umbrella next time it pours and watch for:
Overflow left for a whole winter soaks brickwork and can push damp through to interior walls, so it is worth acting on early.
Clearing jobs are priced individually because two houses of the same size can be very different underneath the leaves. We look at:
Send us a few pictures from the garden showing every guttered side and we will reply with a fixed price, frequently on the same day.
A routine clean empties a system that still works. A clearance job is for guttering that has given up: packed outlets, plants rooted in the run, overflowing sections and blocked downpipes. It takes more hands-on work, and we make sure water flows freely all the way to ground level before we finish.
Nine times out of ten. Homes on the lower side of Stoke D’Abernon catch a lot of willow leaves and seed fluff, which mats into the outlets. Once that plug is removed and the pipe is rodded through, the overflow usually stops. If a section has also sagged, we can re-align it with new brackets.
We clear the downpipe itself from the bottom upwards, which solves most problems. Where the pipe enters an underground drain and the blockage is below ground, that needs a drainage specialist with jetting equipment, and we will let you know straight away if that is the case.
Guards stop large leaves but fine silt, pine needles and seed cases still get through or settle on top and form a mat. We lift the guards, clear what has built up beneath them, wash them off and refit them so they work as intended.
Yes. After a windy spell we often get calls from Stoke D’Abernon and Cobham with freshly overflowing gutters. We prioritise active overflow where we can, and photos sent by WhatsApp help us judge how urgent it is and what to bring.
We clear those gutters from the ground with the pole system, so nobody puts weight or ladders on glass or polycarbonate. It is the same for flat-roofed extensions and garages with a gutter along the back.
