Water spilling over the gutter or a downpipe that has stopped draining? We clear stubborn blockages across Egham, pull out weeds and seedlings, and get the rainwater moving again before it soaks your walls.
A blocked gutter is a problem that only gets worse with every shower. Once an outlet is plugged, water backs up along the run, spills over the front edge and runs straight down your brickwork or over the back door. Our gutter clearing Egham visits are aimed squarely at that situation: compacted leaf mould, tennis balls, birds’ nests, clumps of moss and even small saplings that have taken root in the silt.
We start at the point where water is escaping and work back along the system. Loose material is lifted out with a powerful gutter vacuum on poles reaching up to 12 metres, while anything packed hard into an outlet or swan-neck is broken up by hand from a safely placed ladder. After that we tackle each downpipe, starting at the shoe and working up through the bends until a bucket of water drains straight through. If your gutters have guards or mesh fitted that have trapped debris on top, we can lift them off, clear underneath and refit them. Should the blockage turn out to be in the underground drain rather than the pipe itself, we will tell you straight away, as that is a job for a drainage specialist.

Gales that sweep across the open Runnymede meadows and up the slope of Cooper’s Hill strip leaves and twigs from the trees in a matter of hours. Egham’s position between Windsor Great Park and the Thames means there is plenty of mature woodland upwind of most streets, and after a blustery night we often find gutters that were fine a week ago now holding a solid plug at every outlet. Horse chestnut leaves and conkers, oak catkins in spring and seed pods from sycamores are all regular culprits.
Many homes around Pooley Green, Stroude and the older streets off the High Street still have their original narrow downpipes, which choke far more easily than modern wider ones. On terraced rows the problem can travel: a blocked hopper on one house sends water along a shared run until it spills over somewhere else entirely. Flat-roofed extensions and garages, common across Egham’s 1960s and 1970s housing, also catch debris that then washes into a single outlet and jams it.
We clear gutters throughout TW20, including Egham Hythe beside the river, the roads near Egham station and the larger houses towards Englefield Green and Royal Holloway. If water is coming over the top during a downpour, send us a short video and we can usually pinpoint the blockage, and bring the right tools, before we even arrive.
Blockages are tackled methodically so the cause is removed, not just the visible part.
Using your photos or a short clip of the overflow, we work out which outlet or section is holding water, then confirm it on arrival by checking the run and testing each downpipe.
Packed leaf mould, nests and root mats are loosened and lifted out, by vacuum where possible and by hand where the material has set hard inside an outlet or corner.
We clear each pipe from the bottom upwards, removing jammed debris at bends and hoppers, then run water through until it drains at full flow into the gully.
If we spot a cracked joint, a below-ground drain issue or guards that are making things worse, you will hear about it with photos, so nothing comes as a surprise later.

A blockage is not always obvious from the garden, especially on a two-storey house, but the building usually leaves a few hints about what is happening above. Clues worth noticing include:
Any of these is worth sorting before winter, as trapped water freezes, expands and can split joints and brackets.
Clearing a single blocked outlet on a bungalow is a very different job to unblocking the whole system on a three-storey house, so we price each one individually. We consider:
A couple of photos, plus a video of the overflow if you have one, lets us quote quickly and accurately.
Yes, in focus. A routine clean is planned maintenance of the whole system. Clearing is about solving an active blockage, often compacted material, plant growth or a choked downpipe that is causing overflow right now. In practice we will still check the rest of the gutters while we are there, so the job is complete.
We clear downpipes from ground level upwards, including bends, shoes and hoppers. If the blockage is in the underground drain, gully or soakaway, we cannot reach it with our equipment and will advise you to call a drainage company. We will always tell you which side of the ground the problem sits.
They certainly add to the load. Homes on the higher ground near Royal Holloway and towards Englefield Green are surrounded by mature oaks, chestnuts and conifers. After autumn storms, these gutters can go from clear to blocked very quickly, so we often see repeat calls from those roads in November and December.
Yes. Grass, buddleia and even small tree seedlings take root in the silt that collects in neglected gutters. We pull them out with their roots and clear the soil they were growing in, so they do not simply sprout back. Left in place, roots can force joints apart.
Guards stop larger leaves but fine silt and pine needles get through, and a layer of debris on top can stop water reaching the gutter at all. We can lift the guards, clear what has collected underneath, clean the guards themselves and refit them securely.
Yes. Many Egham semis have a flat-roofed kitchen or garage extension beneath the main gutter. We work from the ground with the vacuum poles rather than standing on the flat roof, and we check the extension’s own outlet too, as debris washed down from above often jams it.
