Home›Gutter Cleaning›Ripley
A complete, careful gutter clean for Ripley homes, from the old timber-framed cottages along the High Street to the detached houses on the edge of the village. We empty every run, test the downpipes and leave the place spotless.
Ripley is a village of hedgerows, big gardens and open green space, and all of that greenery ends up in the guttering sooner or later. Leaves, seed heads, moss from the roof and fine silt slowly build into a damp sludge that holds water against the fascia board. Our gutter cleaning Ripley service clears the whole system in one visit, front, back and sides, so every run drains properly into its downpipe again rather than spilling down the walls.
Nearly all of it happens with our feet on the ground. We use a commercial gutter vacuum fitted to high-reach poles that extend up to 12 metres, around 40ft, which covers almost every house in the village without anyone leaning a ladder on your gutters. Where an outlet is packed solid or a valley needs clearing by hand, we use safe ladder access instead. Once everything is empty we run water through to check the outlets and downpipes, and we are happy to send you photos of the cleared gutters so you can see the result for yourself.

Ripley grew up as a coaching stop on the old Portsmouth Road, and the conservation area along the High Street still has timber-framed, tile-hung and Georgian-fronted buildings sitting side by side. Older roofs like these tend to have steep pitches, dormers and awkward junctions where gutters meet, so debris gathers in corners you cannot see from the pavement. Cast iron and older ogee guttering is common on the historic properties, and it needs gentle handling rather than heavy ladders resting on it.
Away from the centre, the village is surrounded by farmland, water meadows and woodland. The River Wey and the Wey Navigation run just to the west past Newark Priory and Papercourt, and that low-lying ground brings mist and damp mornings for much of the year. Damp air means moss thrives on north-facing roof slopes, and when it dries out in summer it breaks away and washes straight into the gutters. Homes near Ripley Green and along Newark Lane also sit close to mature oaks and field hedges that shed leaves well into December.
We look after houses right across the GU23 postcode, including Ripley itself, Send, Ockham and Wisley. Many of these properties have long gutter runs over garages, stables and outbuildings, and we include those in the quote so the whole site is covered in one trip and nothing gets forgotten.
Here is exactly what happens between your first message and the moment we pack the van away.
Message us your address with a few pictures taken from the ground showing each guttered side. We look at the length and height of the runs and usually reply with a firm quote the same day.
On the day we look around the house for overflow stains, bowed sections and outlets that seem blocked, then confirm everything with you, or by message if you are at work.
The vacuum pulls out leaves, moss and silt along each gutter. Tight corners and packed outlets are finished by hand, and downpipes are cleared from ground level upwards.
We flush water through to confirm it drains, sweep up around the house and send a short update, with photos if you would like them.

Once a year suits most houses in the village, although homes beside big trees often need a spring and autumn visit. It is worth booking sooner if you notice any of the following:
Late autumn, once the leaves are down, is the busiest and most useful time for a clean, so it pays to get in touch early and book a slot before the first winter storms arrive.
We never use a one-size price list, because a cottage on the High Street and a large detached house with outbuildings are very different jobs. Your quote reflects:
Pop the photos over on WhatsApp, by text or by email, and a fixed, no-obligation figure will follow.
Yes. Many of the period properties along the High Street have delicate cast iron or traditional ogee gutters. Because our vacuum works from the ground on long poles, we rarely need to put weight on the guttering itself, which makes it a gentle option for older buildings. We simply clear the debris and check the outlets.
Properties on the western side of the village, closer to the river and water meadows, tend to see more moss on the roof because of the damp air. That moss ends up in the gutters, so a clean every six to twelve months is sensible. We can suggest a schedule once we have seen how full they are.
We can. Just include photos of any garages, stables, workshops or garden rooms with your request and we will price them in. Low buildings are quick to do from the ground, and it is often worth clearing them at the same time as the house.
Very little. The vacuum collects the debris into a sealed container rather than throwing it onto the ground. Anything that drops while we clear an outlet by hand is picked up, and we sweep the paths before we leave. If you would rather keep the leaf mould for the compost heap, just say so.
We let you know straight away and explain what we have found, with photos. Because joints, end caps and brackets travel with us, most minor fixes get sorted that same day, once you are happy with the price we have given you.
Working up from the bottom of the downpipe sorts out the majority of blockages. Should the fault lie underground in the drain itself, we will tell you, because that needs a drainage specialist with the right equipment. We can usually tell you whether the fault sits above or below ground before we go.
