Rusting cast iron on a village cottage, sun-bleached plastic on a family home, a barn conversion or oak-framed garage needing gutters for the first time – West Clandon guttering supplied, hung and connected, with the old lot hauled away.
In a village with as much character as this one, guttering is not just a drainage detail; it is part of how the house looks from the lane. Swapping heavy, flaking cast iron or tired grey-white plastic for a new system can sharpen up the whole elevation, as well as stopping the leaks. Our gutter installation in West Clandon covers complete replacements on existing homes and brand-new gutters and downpipes on extensions, garages, barns, stables and garden buildings.
Each project starts with a survey at no cost to you. We assess how much roof feeds each run, where water can discharge – gullies, drains, soakaways or rain butts – and which profile will suit the building. Half-round sits comfortably on cottages and Victorian houses, ogee echoes the moulded look of older eaves, square-line suits crisp modern architecture and deep-flow copes with large, steep roofs. Black is the favourite in the village, with brown, white and anthracite grey as alternatives. Out come the existing gutters, which we haul away, then brackets go up at proper intervals along a tight string line, and every outlet is placed so the downpipe drops cleanly into its drainage point.

The older heart of West Clandon, around The Street and St Peter and St Paul’s church, has cottages and Victorian houses where guttering really affects the look of the building. Many still have cast iron, or plastic that replaced it a generation ago and is now brittle. Black half-round or ogee uPVC keeps the traditional appearance while doing away with the weight, the rust and the repainting. On low cottage eaves we pay particular attention to where downpipes run, keeping them tidy against doors and windows.
Elsewhere in the village, interwar and later detached houses on generous plots often have long runs, multiple roof slopes and outbuildings. Garages, stables, annexes and garden studios are common, and many were built without guttering or with something lightweight that has failed. We fit gutters to them that match the main house and drain somewhere sensible, which also stops rain splashing back against timber cladding or soaking the ground by the door.
West Clandon is semi-rural, so drainage is not always as simple as dropping into a road gully. Some properties drain to soakaways, ditches or water butts. During the survey we look at where each downpipe can sensibly discharge, and plan outlets around that. We install guttering throughout West Clandon and the wider GU4 area, from homes near Clandon station to the lanes towards East Clandon and Merrow.
Our installations follow a clear sequence so the finished system both looks right and drains properly.
We measure each run, look at roof size and drainage points, then put forward the shape and shade we think will sit best on it. A written quote follows with no pressure to proceed.
Old guttering, pipes and fixings come off steadily, heavy iron lengths lowered on a rope. Fascias are inspected at this point so any soft timber is flagged before we fit anything.
A stretched line sets the gradient and supports go up at even, correct gaps. Lengths, corners and outlets are clipped in, and downpipes are fixed plumb to the wall.
Each new section gets a good dose of water to check the flow lands where planned; every old length and offcut then rides away with us.

The first step is simply pictures by WhatsApp or email; if measurements are needed, a visit gets booked.
Black half-round or ogee usually look best on cottages and Victorian houses, as they reflect the cast-iron guttering these homes were originally built with. Each comes in uPVC, giving you that heritage look with none of the painting or rust.
Yes. We fit guttering and downpipes to barns, oak-framed garages, stables and garden studios. We will discuss the profile and colour that best suit the building, and plan downpipe positions so water drains away from timber and doorways.
It affects where the downpipes go. We position outlets so each downpipe connects to the existing soakaway or drain wherever possible. We do not carry out below-ground drainage work, but we will tell you if a soakaway appears to be struggling.
Nine times out of ten, yes. uPVC is much lighter, does not rust and does not need repainting. In black half-round or ogee it looks very similar to cast iron from ground level. Lowering the iron is done with care, and none of it stays behind.
If the roof slopes are large or steep, deep-flow gutters carry more water and reduce the risk of overflowing in heavy rain. For smaller roofs, standard profiles are usually fine. We work it out from roof area during the survey.
We inspect the fascias once the old gutters are off. Should a board feel spongy or crumble, we let you know before fixing new brackets, because a gutter is only as secure as the board it is fixed to.
