Brand-new uPVC gutters and downpipes for Thorpe houses, cottages, garages and garden rooms. We strip out the tired system, hang the new one with a true fall to each outlet and cart the old materials away with us.
There comes a point where mending an old gutter is just delaying the inevitable. Plastic that has turned chalky and brittle, iron that is flaking and rust-streaked, or a system that has been patched so often that no two lengths match – that is when a fresh start makes more sense. Our gutter installation in Thorpe covers everything from a single outbuilding to the whole house, with new brackets, joints, outlets and downpipes fitted as one matched system.
We begin with a free survey, looking at roof size, the volume of rain each roof plane delivers and where downpipes can sensibly discharge. That shapes the advice on profile: half-round suits most cottages, square or ogee often looks right on later houses, and deep-flow is worth considering for big roof areas or homes that catch heavy run-off. You can pick from black, brown, white or a modern anthracite grey. Once you are happy, we take down the existing guttering, check the fascia behind it, fit the new run at an even gradient and leave the site clear of offcuts.

Thorpe’s conservation area gives the village much of its character, with old brick walls, cottages and listed buildings clustered around St Mary’s Church and the village street. If your home is in or close to that area, it is worth choosing a profile and colour that sit quietly with the building – plain black half-round, or an ogee moulding, rarely looks out of place. We can talk you through the options, though any planning or listed building questions should be checked with Runnymede Borough Council first.
Away from the historic core, much of Thorpe is made up of post-war detached homes, chalet bungalows and newer family houses, plus a good number of properties with paddocks, stables and detached garages. Those outbuildings often still carry their original guttering, or none at all, and a new, properly sized system can stop rainwater pouring straight off the roof onto doors and yards. Garden offices and timber cabins are increasingly common too, and they benefit from guttering that feeds a water butt.
Because much of TW20 around Thorpe is low-lying, with lakes on several sides and the Thames not far off, we pay close attention to where downpipes will empty. Discharging rainwater into a working gully or soakaway, rather than onto a patio by the back door, matters more here than on higher ground. We will point out anything that looks inadequate during the survey.
Four stages, each one agreed with you before we move on to the next.
We look at the roof, existing fascias, outlet positions and drainage, and talk through profiles and colours. A written price follows, and you are under no obligation to proceed.
Existing gutters and downpipes are removed carefully so the fascias and brickwork are not damaged. Any soft or rotten boards are pointed out before new brackets go up.
A taut line is pinned along the fascia first, and each bracket follows it so the run slopes evenly to its outlet. Unions, corners and stop ends are clipped together and downpipes fixed securely to the wall.
Water is poured into each run to confirm it drains with no standing pools. Offcuts and old guttering are loaded into the van and taken away for disposal.

Black half-round is the most common choice for period cottages, as it echoes the original cast iron look. Ogee can also suit some older houses. Homes that are listed, or that sit within the village conservation area, may face restrictions, so a quick word with Runnymede Borough Council is sensible first.
Yes. Many Thorpe homes have stables, barns, garages or garden offices with poor or missing guttering. We can fit a correctly sized system that directs water into a downpipe, water butt or drain rather than letting it pour off the roof edge.
On larger roofs, steep slopes or homes where water from an upper roof lands on a lower one, deep-flow can make a real difference. It holds more water before it overflows. We will only recommend it where the roof size genuinely calls for it.
We take it down, load it into our van and take it away. Plastic, metal and broken brackets are all removed, along with any offcuts from the new installation, so you are left with nothing to clear up.
We specialise in gutters and downpipes. If we find rotten fascia boards when the old guttering comes down, we will flag it and talk through what can be done. Where the boards are sound, the new brackets are fixed into them as normal.
Usually, yes. We position downpipes over existing gullies wherever possible. Thorpe is fairly low-lying, so we check that each discharge point drains away properly and will let you know if a gully looks blocked or unsuitable.
